Clinical photography is not restricted to cases alone especially in my field that’s dentistry. We do a lot of work taking help of labs and  we do send them intra oral images. The ceramists are fine artists they are not doctors but they have a very deep understanding of our subject  and i take pride in saying that they are an indispensable part of our success stories.  They too send us images and those pictures could affect the outcome of a particular case by affecting our decisions for that particular case.  So if i’m being open minded I wouldn’t hesitate to say that  since the images are affecting the clinical situation or outcome,  they must be considered apt to be termed clinical photography.  Similarly images made through the microscopes  in pathology labs too are an integral part of clinical photography.

For me clinical photography includes a lot of things

Face/ body images Microscope photography  Table top photography as in photography of biopsy specimens  Photographs of x rays or scans  Or even a dash of glamour like images of lips or a beautiful smile that I created is very much clinical photography .  In a nutshell clinical photography is huge and in the forthcoming years your will see more & more impact of it in how we perceive things.  You can listen to the podcast on any podcast app of your choice

Clinical photography is the key to a successful clinical career
Clinical photography is the key to a successful clinical career
You must have already seen its impact on social media. People who are open to show their clinical skills on social media are not only getting praises but a lot of patients too because subconsciously they are developing a sense of confidence in their patients. Now coming to WHO can purse clinical photography  History of photographers being called to document cases Wich means you do not need a doctorate degree to document  The question is who CAN and who must document Anyone can document.  If you are a medical student, front office staff , nurse practically anyone can  IN fact if you haven’t started doing clinical photography you are already late.  The experience of clinical photography on your BIO / resume is going to fetch you extra brownie points for sure.  Anyone will be happy to pay you extra if you have what it takes for good clinical photography  Now coming to who MUST well the answer is the clinical who works on the case sees it in the best way like no one else can  Also we must all remember the saying that what your mind does not know your eyes cannot see. NO one can document cases as perfectly as the clinician himself because no 1 else can read his thoughts .  So yes clinical photography MUSt be ideally done by the clinical practitioners themselves.  Now it’s quiz time.  There is a special form of photography which beings out colors in transparent objects by using special filters. There is no play of colored light or photoshop here. Just by rotating a special filter we can see colors in the transparent object. This kind of photography too is a part of clinical photography and can be used to study stress.  You have to tell me the name of the photography technique & what filters are used for the same.
